Oscar Christian Wegerle was born January 18, 1931 in Hazen, ND. He graduated from Hazen High School in 1949. Chris attended Wahpeton (ND) State School of Science, where he was editor of the Agawasie School yearbook. Chris served in the US Army from August of 1951 to August of 1953.
Chris was united in marriage to the love of his life, Audrey Jankowski, on November 29, 1958, in Enderlin, ND. After employment with the Lisbon Gazette in Lisbon, ND, they relocated to Devils Lake, ND. Chris took a job as Advertising Manager for the Devils Lake Journal. He was later employed by KVLR/KDVL Radio Station.
Chris was actively involved in his local community and belonged to many organizations, including Toastmasters International, in which he served as Lieutenant Governor and President of the local chapter. He was President of the Lake Region Skating Club, a member of Lake Region Gun Club, and Master of Ceremonies for numerous events.
Chris bore many titles such as Humorist, Rock Collector, Gardener, Official Tinkerer and Dabbler, Honorary Pet Vet, and Wood Worker Extraordinaire. "If he built it, they would come." He was a gentle man with a subtle sense of humor, an eloquent speaker, a diligent worker, a loving husband, and father. Chris loved and appreciated the beauty in nature's gifts such as a colorific sunset, a starlit night, new fallen snow, and all creatures great and small. Chris utilized his creative mind and hard working hands to make the world a more beautiful place.
Chris passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Sanford Health Palliative Care Unit, Fargo. He will be remembered as friendly, quick witted, contributory, and selfless. He will forever remain in our hearts. Chris always greeted you with a smile and is now smiling down on us from God's Kingdom.
Chris is survived by daughter, Jamie (Greg) Schmidt; grandchildren, Brady and Chantelle Schmidt; and sisters, Anna Schlosser, and Lorine Unterseher. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Paulina Wegerle; wife, Audrey; brothers, Adam, Albert, and Art; and sisters, Alice Wegerlie, Emma Wiedrich, and Leatina Isaak.
A Celebration Service will be Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 2 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
