Pamela "Pam" Matthys, 68, Fargo, ND, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019, in The Meadows on University, Fargo.
Pamela May Betts was born on June 1, 1951 in Sidney, NE. Pam is the daughter of Charles D. & Lois M. (Englert) Betts.
Pam's father worked in the oil industry and traveled extensively wherever the work took him and his family. Pam learned to find pleasures in the oil camps she grew up in. She had a great love for animals. One of Pam's first pets was her beloved Petunia, her pet skunk. Over the years she had many beloved pets, her dog, Tana and her horse, Pud were a couple that held a very special place in her heart. Pam doted on her younger siblings. They loved her lasagna and can remember saving all the lime popsicles for her when she would come home from college. Pam attended NDSU for Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, she took a position at NDSU in the Serology Department as a Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostician. After college, Pam enjoyed her time living on her husband's family farm. Pam's love of animals carried on into her adult life, she especially enjoyed her cats (including Mitzy) and the goats on the farm, Tic, Tac, Toe & Tinkerbell. Her children remember fondly her support of all their activities. She enjoyed movies and loved to bring her children to the movie theater often. Pam enjoyed many camping trips, listening to music, dancing, and reading books, especially Stephen King. She was very fond of spending time with her friends over a good meal. Pam will be remembered for her bright smile and her sense of humor.
Pam is survived by her sons, Tyler Matthys (Jessica Vinson) and Ian Matthys; grandson, Ozrik Matthys; spouse, Dale Matthys; sister, Melodie Betts; brother, Charles A Betts; paternal uncle, Carl Betts and many cousins and friends.
Pam is preceded in death by her parents, Charles D and Lois M. Betts; her infant children, Zachery Matthys and Jessica Matthys; paternal aunts and uncles, Harold Betts, Dorothy Johnson, Roland Betts, Kenneth Betts, Violet Englert, Guy Betts Jr, James Betts, Eugene Betts, Harry Betts and Mary Lilley; maternal aunts and uncles, Eva Englert, George Englert, Rose Oberlander, Hazel Schwend, Archie Englert, Clarence Englert and Francis Ward Miller.
In all the places Pam has lived, Montana has always held on to her heart. For this reason, Pam's ashes will be spread in the Prior Mountains outside of Bridger, MT at a later date.
