Paul N. Asplin

Paul Asplin, 62, Moorhead, MN, died Monday, May 5, 2014, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo, ND, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Paul Norman Asplin was born on January 22, 1952, in Fargo, to Hubert "Sonny" and Vivian (Kinslow) Asplin. Paul spent his youth on the farm in Georgetown, MN. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1969, and entered the US Marine Corps that November. He served in both Hawaii and Arizona and specialized in fire rescue before being honorably discharged in July of 1972. Following his return home, he worked construction in various capacities eventually joining his brothers at Asplin Excavation, mainly running the Cat, for nearly 10 years.

Paul had many loves in his life: his Harley, old western movies, tinkering with things, telling jokes and laughing; but none was greater than his love for his family. He was especially proud of his two granddaughters.

Paul was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2012 and his strong will took it as a challenge. After a courageous battle, he finally succumbed to the cancer. Even in his last days, he counted himself truly rich and blessed.

Paul is survived by his wife, Arlene; sons, Greg, Dave, and Jacob Asplin; granddaughters, Kyra and Joslyn; mother, Vivian Johnson; brothers, Roger (Rita), Charles (Carol), and David (Deb); a special aunt and uncle, Wendell (Jean) Suchow; many extrended family members; and special friends, Henry (DeVon) Clark.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lon Asplin; father, Sonny; and a brother, Kenneth Asplin.

Visitation: Friday, May 9, from 5-7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Funeral Service: Saturday, at 10:30 AM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
