Pearl B. Bjerke

September 29, 1916 — December 8, 2012

Pearl Berdell Jacobson was born September 29, 1916, in Borup, MN, to John and Emma (Anderson) Jacobson. Pearl was raised in Borup and graduated from Borup High School in 1932.

She was very active in athletics, including boy's basketball. They allowed her to scrimmage with the boy's team since they were short-handed. She also excelled with the girls basketball team.

After high school, Pearl worked in the Ada and Borup area as a waitress and housekeeper for area families. She was united in marriage to Everett Bjerke Sr., on June 8, 1936, in Borup. They made their home in Borup where Pearl worked for Stenerson Lumber as an estimator, bookkeeper and clerk.

When the lumberyard closed in the 1970's, they moved to Moorhead, MN. Everett continued to work for Stenerson Lumber but Pearl began working in the lumber department of Archies in Moorhead. She later worked for Moorhead Paint and Glass until she retired.

Everett died October 1, 1981, and Pearl continued to make her home in Moorhead. She spent several winters with her sister and brother-in-law, in Thousand Oaks, CA. While there, Pearl struck up a friendship with Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin Jr.

Pearl lived in Parkview Terrace as well as Eventide Independent Living, both in Moorhead. She died Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Sanford Health Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND, at ninety-six years of age.

"Gram Peeps" is survived by her two sons, Everett Jr. (Marilyn) Bjerke, and Loren Bjerke, both Moorhead; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces; and a special first cousin, Shelda Warren.

In addition to her husband, Everett Sr., she was preceded in death by a sister, Angeline, and a brother, Silas.
