Pearl S. Cowie, 84, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND, following a courageously fought battle with an aggressive cancer for the last nine months.
Pearl was born October 10, 1930, to Petra and Samuel Samuelson in Hamar, ND, where she grew up. She attended and graduated from Oak Grove in Fargo. Pearl had a wide variety of employment, however, in years prior to retirement, her focus was health care. She worked at Eventide, Bethany Retirement Living, and also provided private home health care in the Fargo-Moorhead area as well as California for a brief time. Pearl was a compassionate, giving, person and became like family to many of her patients and kept in touch with them and their families through the years.
Pearl was a passionate Minnesota Vikings fan and also followed the Minnesota Twins. She enjoyed gardening and reading. Pearl was also a very patriotic person and you would often see her wearing red, white and blue and belonged to various auxiliaries. One of her favorite charities was Operation Gratitude in Van Nuys, CA. She spent many hours packing care packages for the deployed men and women of our military during the Iraqi war while she was living in CA and when she returned for visits.
Her two youngest children, Lisa Cowie and Mickey Cowie, will be hosting a casual Celebration of Life on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 6:30 pm at the Speak Easy Restaurant in Moorhead - one of Pearl's favorite places to dine. Friends, family, and care providers are welcome to attend and share fond memories of Pearl.
Pearl was loved by many and will be missed but heaven has gained a great angel.
Pearl's wishes were to bequeath her body to the University of North Dakota Medical School, for the advancement of medical research.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Pearl's name may be sent to her favorite charity:
www.operationgratitude.com Operation Gratitude annually sends 150,000+ care packages filled with snacks, entertainment, hygiene and hand-made items, plus personal letters of appreciation, to New Recruits, Veterans, First Responders, Wounded Warriors, Care Givers and to individually named U.S. Service Members deployed overseas.
