Pearl Johns, 92, Fargo, ND, went peacefully to her heavenly home on Monday, December 11, 2017, at Elim Rehab and Care Center, Fargo.
Pearl June Stensland was born August 3, 1925, to Carl and Ida (Jorgenson) Stensland of rural Adams, ND. She grew up on a farm and attended a one room school house. Pearl graduated from Mayville (ND) Teachers College to become an elementary school teacher. Pearl was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She taught school in Cascade, MT, Fordville, ND, and Grand Forks, ND.
Pearl married LeRoy Johns on December 28, 1960, in Grand Forks, where they made their home. She contracted Guillain-Barré Syndrome which caused her to retire early from teaching. She remained very involved and active in her community and church, as well as with her friends and family. In 2008, she moved to Pioneer House Assisted Living in Fargo.
Pearl volunteered at the Grand Forks City Mission, her church, and Child Evangelism Fellowship. She loved music, singing in Sweet Adeline's, in her church, and for many special occasions. She helped to direct Vacation Bible Schools and set up a library in her church. Pearl worked with many Bible study and church programs.
Pearl loved to travel, read, cook and entertain. She loved Jesus and was a dedicated prayer warrior and encourager. She will be most remembered for her love of family, friends and church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ida Stensland; her husband, LeRoy; her infant son, Stephen Charles; and her sister, Doris Walker.
Visitation will begin at 12 PM, followed by a funeral at 1 PM, Saturday, December 16, 2017, in Elim Care Chapel, Fargo. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.
