Pearl Markert Gehler

June 28, 1917 — April 1, 2008

Pearl Agnes Thompson was born in Barnesville, MN, June 28, 1917, to Albert and Jennie Thompson. She attended school in Barnesville and then graduated from Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. During World War II, Pearl worked as a civilian guard at a supply depot in Utah as well as an electrician on the Victory and Merchant ships in Portland, OR. She also worked at Stever's Sewing Center, Coast to Coast Hardware and Brooks Jewelry while raising her sons.

Pearl was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead from 1948 until moving to Redmond, WA in 1997, where she joined Bothell First Lutheran Church. Her remaining years were spent in WA where she died on April 1, 2008, at the age of ninety.

Pearl will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, volunteerism, independence, love of family and travel. She left her family with the treasure of extensive family history, traveling twice to Norway visiting relatives and doing research.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Norval Thompson; and her husbands, LaVerne Markert (1971) and Theodore Gehler (1995). She is survived by her sons, Michael Markert (Renee) of Bothell, WA, and Alan Markert of Grand Forks, ND; three grandchildren, Andrew Markert (Desirae) of Bothell, WA, Katie Markert of Boston, MA, and Jason Markert (Hannah) who is in the Air Force stationed in Okinawa; and two great-granddaughters, Kinsey and Kamryn.

Services will be held Friday, April 11, 2008 at 11 AM in the Korsmo Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment is in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
