Pearl E. Mattson, 88, Moorhead, MN, died June 12, 2008, at her home.
Pearl Ericka Erickson was born June 23, 1919 to Erick and Elise Marie Erickson in Moorhead. She married Clarence R. Mattson on July 4, 1941. They moved to Duluth, MN, for a few years but soon returned to the Moorhead area for the remainder of their lives.
Besides being a full-time housewife, Pearl assisted with farming duties during her husband's farming career. She milked cattle, plowed and cultivated corn, shocked grain; picked potatoes, fed chickens and hauled grain to local elevators. In town, she would sew and do hair for friends and neighbors. She worked as a clerk for the Herbst Department Store and Gaffney's Office Supply in Fargo, ND, until she and her husband began Mattson Lawn Builder's in Moorhead, where she was bookkeeper and secretary.
Pearl will be remembered for her non-stop energy, famous apple and pumpkin pies, her donuts, and homemade biscuits and gravy, and for her unwavering love of family and friends. Her faith in God sustained her as she lived out her faith in her daily activities. She was an active life-long volunteer: sewed shirts for the American Red Cross; OSLC quilting (47 years), Altar Guild (40 years), Friday Fellowship, Naomi Circle, Merry Mitten Makers, Parish Visitor paper (39 years), serving committee; Eventide honoree: set and washed resident's hair (35 years); Village Family Services (800 Hours); made about 2,000 recycled cards; distributed food to Dorothy Day House and Churches United. Pearl wrote: "Remember if you expect the best out of others, you must first give the best of yourself".
Pearl is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Mark) Revier, Moorhead and Doris (Ron) Mattson-Franks, Fargo; grandchildren, Brandon (Kelly) Larson, Danae (Justin) Holland, and Matt Franks; great-grandson, Lucas Larson; brothers, Edwin (Miriam) Erickson
