Pernell E. Swenson

Pernell Eie Swenson was born April 14, 1937, in Halstad, MN, the son of John and Christine (Eie) Swenson. Pernell was raised in Shelly Township and graduated from
Climax (MN) High School in 1955. After graduation, Pernell along with his brother Jerome expanded the family dairy and grain farm. From 1960-1966 he served in the 119th Fighter Group of the Air National Guard, Fargo, ND.
On April 2, 1965, Pernell was united in marriage to Marie Ellen Arneson at Augustana
Lutheran Church, Halstad.
In the 1990's Pernell and Jerome sold the cattle and retired, at which time his nephews David and Craig Swenson continued the farming operation. Pernell assisted his nephews on the farm until 2008.
Pernell's interests included farming, gardening, family and annually decorating the farm yard with Christmas lights. He enjoyed making potato cakes and flatbread. He was fond of his many Sheltie pet dogs and his last dog Missy, who is an Australian Shepherd.
Pernell became a resident at Four Seasons at Arbor Park in Moorhead, MN, September 2008. Pernell, died at seventy-two years of age, on Saturday, April 18, 2009.
Pernell was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Muriel Oistad. He is survived by his wife Marie Ellen, Halstad; a brother Jerome (Beatrice) Swenson, Shelly; a brother-in-law, Kent (Grace) Arneson, Moorhead; eight nieces and nephews, Patricia (
The Memorial Service for Pernell will be Thursday, April 23, 2009, at 2PM, in Augustana Lutheran Church, Halstad.
Burial will be in Augustana Lutheran Cemetery.
