Philip McCoy, 92, Moorhead, MN, died Monday, March 9, 2009 in MeritCare Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.
Philip Bruce McCoy, son of William and Mabel (Matson) McCoy, was born August 9, 1916 in Pasadena, CA. He grew up and received his education in California. As a young man, he worked in Yellowstone National Park, where he met Norma Johnson, who was on vacation with her family.
During WW II, Phil served in the US Army Air Corps. He served aboard a combat aircraft in the China-Burma theatre of war, as part of the "Flying Tigers". He was wounded in combat, and received a number of medals.
On April 30, 1944, Phil was united in marriage to Norma in Fergus Falls, MN. After his Army discharge in 1945, they made their home in California. In 1955, they moved to Fargo, where Phil worked for Northwestern Bell, until his retirement in 1979.
After retiring, Phil attended Bible school in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The family made their home near Lake Park, MN, for 11 years, and in 1993, returned to Moorhead, where they had lived since.
His love of the Lord, was the most important thing in Phil's life. He was a student of the Bible, and an excellent Bible teacher. He enjoyed meeting people, reading, writing, and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Norma, Moorhead; sons, Steven (Patricia) McCoy, Owasso, OK, Douglas (Naomi) McCoy, Junction City, OR, and Gregory McCoy, Broken Arrow, OK; daughter, Eileen (Pastor Ron) Bakken, Moorhead; 15 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchild
Phil was preceded in death by a son, Mark, who died in 1959, his parents, and a brother, Hubert.
Visitation: Sunday, 5 PM to 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral Service: Monday, March 16, 2009, at 2 PM, Faith Hope Love Church, Moorhead.
