Sophie Phyllis Beach, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on January 31, 2009.
Sophie Phyllis Ullman was born November 9, 1923, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the thirteenth child born to German immigrants, Margaret and Martin Ullman. Phyllis was raised in Winnipeg and spent her early adult years working at the Canadian Wheat Board as a key punch operator. It was during this time that a dashing young man from the United States entered Phyllis' life and swept her off her feet. On May 6, 1948, Phyllis and Harland Beach were united in marriage in Winnipeg. Soon thereafter, Harland brought his new bride across the border. Phyllis became a U.S. citizen on May 19, 1953. However, her love for the Canadian Maple Leaf never faded.
Phyllis and Harland Beach lived in Long Prairie, MN, Alexandria, MN, Riverton, WY, Detroit Lakes, MN, and finally settled in the Fargo-Moorhead area in 1960. Together, Phyllis and Harland raised their six children and owned and operated United Music and FM Vending.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband and their children, Harland Jr. (Phyllis) Beach, Rollie (Michelle) Beach, Jenny (Kermit) Himle, Carol (Dan) Treat, and John (Cecilia) Beach. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her son, Greg Beach; her great-grandson, Daniel Beach II; and all her brothers and sisters and their spouses. What a wonderful reunion awaits her.
The Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at 11 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Salvation Army.
