Phyllis J. Lopez, 76, Moorhead, MN, died Friday, March 14, 2008, in her home under the care of Hospice.
Phyllis Jean Olson was born October 11, 1931, to Elmer and Eleanora (Flohr) Olson in Moorhead where she was raised and received her education. As a young woman, Phyllis worked for a short time at the Little Giant Grill, Moorhead.
On April 22, 1949, Phyllis married John Lopez in Moorhead where they made their home. She lovingly raised their four children and in 1975, she assisted her husband in running the Peterson Truck Farm, Moorhead. They retired in 1996 and Phyllis became an active volunteer at the VA Medical Center, the Moorhead Summer Youth Program, and at the Moorhead VFW Post #1223 where she was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Phyllis loved to do crafts, crochet, bake, and grow flowers. She also enjoyed entertaining her large family and many friends.
She is lovingly survived by her husband, John, Moorhead; three daughters, Nancy Gordon, Hammond, LA, JoAnn Lopez, West Fargo, ND, and Lynda Bjerken, Moorhead; a son, John J. Lopez, Fargo, ND; one brother, E.L. "Skip" (Verna) Olson, Fargo; three sisters, Shirley (Robert) Pendl, Downers Grove, IL, Anita Cruz, Fargo, and Judy (Duane) Goodwin, Fargo; eight grandchildren, Jason Edmon, Julie Gordon, Parnell Gordon Jr, Anthony Gordon Sr, Alyse Gordon, Nora Bjerken, Christopher Bjerken, and Corey Bjerken; twelve great-grandchildren with one due in June; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, and one grandson, Cory.
Visitation: Tuesday from 5 - 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at 11 AM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
