Phyllis M. Nelson, age 85, of Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, November 26, 2011, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND, after a prolonged illness.
Phyllis Marie Olson, daughter of Carl and Martha (Rogers) Olson, was born November 1, 1926, in Waubun, MN. She grew up in Waubun, where she graduated from high school. She also attended Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, MN.
On February 14, 1948, Phyllis married Harold Nelson of Sebeka, MN. They lived in Minneapolis; California; Deer River, MN; Finland, MN; and Duluth, MN. The past 44 years they have lived in Moorhead.
Most of Phyllis's life was spent at home, caring for her family. She enjoyed oil painting, shopping, playing cards with family, and traveling to Hawaii and throughout the United States. She especially enjoyed her trip to the Scandinavian countries with her sisters, Muriel and Dolly. While there, they met relatives and visited her Grandpa Olson's home and farm in Denmark.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Harold, Moorhead; a daughter, Susan (Perry) Lindberg, Anoka, MN; a son, Kenn Nelson, St. Paul, MN; a sister, Dolly Beauchamp, Tacoma, WA; grandchildren, Peter (Jen) Lindberg, Otsego, MN, and Roddy Lindberg, Oahu, Hawaii; great-grandson, Alex Lindberg, Otsego; her wonderful in-laws; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Muriel Berger; and two brothers, Charles and Kenneth Olson.
Funeral: Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at 11 AM in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King in Moorhead. Visitation: one hour prior to the funeral. Burial: Bethel Cemetery, Sebeka.
