Purcell "Percy" Hovland

Purcell "Percy" Hovland, 87, of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015, in Bethany on University, Fargo, ND.
Percy, the son of Peder and Minnie Hovland, was born February 17, 1928, in Esmond, ND. The family moved to Mayville, ND, where Percy grew up and received his education. As a young man, he served his country in the US Army, seeing duty in Korea, from 1951 until discharge in 1953.
On June 26, 1955, Purcell was united in marriage to Bernice Ostby, in Clifford, ND. The couple made their home in Oakport Township, near Moorhead. Percy worked at NDSU for 23 years until he retired.
Percy was a charter member of the Red River Valley Woodcarvers Club. He became an honorary member in 2011. He was also a member of the Moorhead American Legion.
Purcell is survived by his wife, Bernice, Moorhead; daughter, Debra (Ronald) Boehm, West Fargo, ND; son, Peder (Terri Kroening) Hovland, Baudette, MN; a brother, John (Karen) Hovland, Moorhead; seven grandchildren, Aaron Kempel, Ira Hovland, Andrew (Alyssa) Hovland, April (Dave) Kritzberger, Heather (Tim) Anderson, Landry Boehm, and Chandler Boehm; and five great-grandchildren, Makaela Anderson, Kayden and Jade Hovland, Ryan Flechsing, and Nadia Kritzberger. Percy was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Avis Rohman.
Visitation for Mr. Hovland will be Tuesday, from 5 PM until 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at 11 AM, in St. Andrew Lutheran Church, West Fargo. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
