Raymond James Steinbach, the son of Frank and Martha (Pashke) Steinbach, was born March 24, 1922, in Perham, MN. He grew up and received his education in the Perham area. As a young man, he served in a CCC camp in northern Minnesota, and worked for farmers in the Arthur, ND, area.
On June 25, 1943, Ray was married to Jean Standfield at Page, ND. In 1944, he entered the US Army and served overseas in the occupation of Japan, until his discharge in 1946. He returned to Arthur. In 1947, the family moved to Felton, MN, where they farmed. In 1956, they moved from the farm into Felton to live. Ray retired from farming in 1990.
Ray served as mayor of Felton for a number of years and on the Felton City Council. He was on the board of directors of the Felton Farmer's Elevator, a member of the American Legion and the VFW, a school bus driver, and he and Jean owned and operated the Felton Café. Ray enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, and fishing. He loved to travel and especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Raymond J. Steinbach died at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND, on Monday, August 13, 2007, at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Betty, a daughter-in-law, Sharon; three brothers, Walter, Clarence and Henry; and two sisters, Martha Dulski and Mary Martin.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Jean, Felton; a son, Jerry, Felton; a daughter, Connie (Keith) Yeager, Coos Bay, Oregon; three sisters, Arlene Werner, Janice (John) Wientjes, and Delores (Joe) Minten, all Perham; four grandchildren, Stacey (Jim) Anderson, Christy (Jon) Ramsey, Corey Steinbach, and Russell Yeager; and three great-grandchildren, Michael and Alyssa Anderson, and McKenna Ramsey.
Visitation: Thursday, from 5 PM until 7 PM,with a prayer service at 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral service: Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at 2 PM, in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Felton.
Burial: Felton Cemetery
