R. B. Hopson died on May 4, 2015, in the VA Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
R. B. Hopson was born in Middlesboro, KY, on February 8, 1926, the only son of Wiley S. and Della (Ward) Hopson. He attended grade school in Middlesboro and moved with his family to Memphis, TN, when he was twelve.
R. B. graduated from Memphis Central High School and was inducted into the US Navy from his high school ROTC program in 1945. He served on the USS Uvalde during World War II, and held commemorative medals from the Philippine government for his service in Pacific Theater naval operations.
He was educated as an automotive engineer and was trained at the General Motors Training Center in Atlanta, GA. He was employed by the Cadillac Motor Car Division, General Motors Corporation, Detroit, Michigan, for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
R. B. Hopson married Deena Kuehn on December 31, 1965. They lived in Briarwood, ND, for 35 years, before moving into Fargo in 2006. R. B. enjoyed downhill skiing, wildlife woodcarving, and United States history.
He is survived by his wife; his godson, Joshua Kuehn (Jessica Ballou); his sister-in-law, Verna Lee Kuehn; brothers-in-law, Bud (Joyce) Kuehn, Dick (Pat) Kuehn of Milnor, ND, DuWayne (Barb) Kuehn of Westminster, CO, and Leroy Ehlert of Breckenridge, MN. Also grateful for having shared his life are his two nieces, Patricia Parker and Linda Parham of Memphis; and thirteen nieces and nephews through marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ruth Hopson Wells; his in-laws, Reinhold and Hilda Kuehn; and his sister-in-law, Betty Ehlert.
A private funeral service will be held in Sargent County, ND. Interment will be in Concordia Cemetery, near Milnor, ND.
