Rev. Alvin "Bud" Stenberg

Rev. Alvin L. "Bud" Stenberg died Monday, June 23, 2008, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, MN, at the age of 88.
Alvin Leroy Stenberg, known as "Bud", the son of Emil and Elsie (Sundeen) Stenberg, was born Jan. 10, 1920, near Hatton, ND. He grew up in Buxton, ND, where he attended school. After dropping out of school, he resumed his education at Augustana Academy, Canton, SD, Concordia College, Moorhead, where he was a soloist in the Concert Choir, Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, WA, and Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN. Bud was ordained in 1948.
In 1946, Bud was married to Laila Rannestad. They served in Glyndon, MN, founded the church in Dilworth, MN, and founded Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff, NE. In 1952, they were called to serve Our Savior's Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks, MN. While in East Grand Forks, Bud served on the Minnesota State College Board and the HUD development board. In 1976, the couple moved to Horace, ND, where they served at Horace Lutheran Church, until retirement in 1985. After retirement, Bud continued to serve by starting a congregation in Arizona City, AZ, and doing interim work in Las Vegas, NV, Saranac Lake, and Lake Placid, both New York; Walcott, Kindred, Leonard, and Cavalier, ND; Roosevelt, MN, and Casa Grande, AZ
Rev. Stenberg is survived by his wife, Laila; children, Mary (Bruce) Post, Essex Junction, Vermont, and Mark (Charis) Stenberg, Pine Island, MN; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dodie Werness and Fern Herbeck; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Ken.
Pastor Bud had a life-long partnership with his wife, Laila, and together their ministry lasted over 50 years. He once said that his goal in life was "to meet everyone on the planet", and he almost succeeded.
