Richard "Dick" Barnes, 69, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Casselton, ND, died November 18, 2012, at Essentia Health in Fargo, surrounded by his family.
Richard Stanley Barnes was born May 31, 1943, in Casselton the son John and Lucy (Turchin) Barnes. He was raised in Casselton and attended Lincoln High School. He then began working for the Casselton Elevator and later for Kaufman Construction.
On October 31, 1964, he was united in marriage to Mary Otto at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno, MN. Richard and Mary established their home in Casselton. In 1973, Richard began working at the Red Baron Lounge as a bartender and later became manager of the Casselton Vets Club for many years. In 1999, he began working for Cardinal Glass in Fargo, retiring in 2004. In 2009, Richard and Mary moved to Fargo.
He was a member of Sts. Anne and Joachim Catholic Church in Fargo and longtime member of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Casselton.
Richard had a great love for the outdoors whether he was camping, fishing or cutting wood. He enjoyed traveling, especially their trips to Arizona and having the opportunity to see the Pacific Ocean. In his later years, he enjoyed woodworking and wood carving.
Richard was a very loving and selfless man. His greatest joy in his life was his wife, children and grandchildren, He will always be remembered for his great stories and infectious laugh that brought great joy to so many throughout his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary; children, Stephen (Maria) Barnes of Fargo, Rene (Reed) Oien of Finley, ND, John Barnes of International Falls, MN, Marie (Darin) Lund of Phoenix, AZ, Timothy (Kari) Barnes of Fargo, and Therese (Brad) Neumann of Fargo; grandchildren, Christian and Faith Barnes, Roger, Nicole, and Amy Hellerud, Amber, Jeff, Rachel and Thomas Mynatt, Olivia Barnes and Chad Neumann; brothers, Conrad (Sherian) Barnes of Casselton, Gerald (Marilyn) Barnes of West Fargo, ND, and George (Jacalyn) Barnes of Jamestown, ND; sisters, Gloria (Dale) Idso of Casselton and Debbie Barnes of Fargo; sister-in-law, Elaine Barnes of Nevada, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James and Peter.
Visitation: Friday, 5 PM to 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM in St. Leo's Catholic Church, Casselton.
Funeral Mass: Saturday, November 24, 2012, at 10:30 AM, in St. Leo's Catholic Church, Casselton.
Interment: St. Leo's Catholic Cemetery, Casselton
