Richard Paul "Dick" Vollbrecht, 71, of Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, November 12, 2005. He passed away at home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, losing a valiant fight with cancer.
Dick Vollbrecht was born on November 2, 1934, in Fergus Falls, MN, the first born child of Ralph and Ella (Nibbe) Vollbrecht. He attended Fergus Falls Senior High School. Following graduation in 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served with honors in Korea and as an Embassy Guard in Paris, France.
Following his honorable discharge from the Marines, Dick attended Wahpeton School of Science and then on to the University of Minnesota earning a degree in Business Administration.
Dick married Esther Mittelstadt, in Fergus Falls, in 1961 and moved to the Twin Cities where Dick worked for the U.S. Postal Service and Montgomery Ward. They moved to Moorhead in 1964 where he was employed by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Dick was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Moorhead American Legion.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Esther, his two devoted daughters, Brenda and her husband, Doug Rapske, Moorhead; and Dana and her husband, Kevin Biffert, Fargo; and 8 grandchildren. Dick is also survived by two brothers, Paul, Alexandria,
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Mary Smith and her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests anyone wishing to honor Dick's memory make a gift to their favorite charity in his name.
A gathering of friends will be Monday, November 14, 2005, from 6 - 8 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. A memorial service will be Tuesday, November 15, 2005, at 1:30 PM, in Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead. Inurnment was held in Sunset Memo
