Richard George Tweeton was born in Pelican Rapids, MN, to George and Emeline (Herzog) Tweeton on November 15, 1927. He attended rural school near his home and worked on the farm until entering the U.S. Army, in 1946. He spent most of his tour in Japan until his honorable discharge in March of 1947.
Richard spent a few more years on the farm, before going to work farming sugar beets for Virgil Tonsfeldt, of Comstock, MN, and also worked in the Carr and Hanson grocery store in Pelican Rapids. In 1952, he began working for Kost Brothers as a machine operator.
On July 11, 1964, Richard married Phyllis Ilene Albertson, in Foxhome, MN. They moved to Moorhead, MN, to raise their family. Richard and Phyllis loved to travel, fish, play cards and enjoy time at the lake. In later years, they loved time spent with their grandchildren, family and friends. Cribbage was the game that Richard enjoyed the most.
A heart attack and other health problems forced Richard to retire in 1986. In spite of those problems, he stayed active and appreciative of time with family and friends. On Thursday, August 30, Richard died at Meritcare Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, with his family at his side, at the age of 79 years.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; one son and one daughter, Kevin Tweeton and his friend Crystal Hughes of Moorhead, De Anna (Troy) Haugen of Rochester, MN; daughter in law, Kimberly Tweeton of Moorhead; 4 grandchildren, Rier, Gunnar, Jonathon, and Charlette; and one brother, Leon (Arlene) Tweeton of Pelican Rapids.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
