Richard Hawkins Jr.

October 4, 1956 — October 13, 2016

Richard Blake Hawkins Jr, 60, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 13, 2016, at his home in Casselton, ND, with his loving wife, Liz, by his side.

Richard was born October 4, 1956, to Richard Sr. and Ida (Topp) Hawkins in Alexandria, MN. He attended Osakis (MN) High School where he excelled in wrestling and football. After graduating in 1975, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Richard returned to the family farm in Osakis, where together with his first wife Mary, had six daughters. After leaving the farm, he studied farm mechanics and production agriculture at Alexandria Technical College. He later obtained his Chief B boiler license and was boiler operator at ethanol plants around Minnesota and North Dakota. It was a job he truly loved.

He married Liz Parrow in 2002. Together they made their home in Casselton and St. Cloud, MN. He gave his time and energy to the many causes close to his heart. Richard volunteered his time as a boiler operator at a St. Cloud non-profit, delivered food for the hungry and homeless, and was always the first to lend a helping hand to those in need.

He loved his grandchildren, rhubarb, good deals, spur-of-the-moment adventures, world history and visits with family. But most of all he loved the Lord.

He is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Liz Parrow-Hawkins; children, Jennifer (David LeGarde), Jackie (Wade) Giesler, Jill, Jayme (Demetrice Norris), and Angela; grandchildren, Ayden Hawkins, Santclare Norris, Ethan Hawkins-Espelien, Cora and Cole Giesler; brothers, Tim (Joyce), Mike; sister, Bev (Joe) Guyette; aunts, Dorothy Hartman, Gladys Campbell, Delores Hawkins, Marlys Hawkins, and Gloria Topp; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; mother, Ida; daughter, Angeline Mary; and sister-in-law, Shelly Hawkins.

Memorial services for Richard will be Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 3 PM, in Heartland Community Church, 1751 East Main, West Fargo, ND. Visitation will begin at 2 PM.

There will be a memorial service Sunday, October 23, 2016, at 2:30 PM, in Fahlun Lutheran Church, rural Nelson, MN. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM.
