Richard Joseph Schreiner Jr., the son of Richard and Eden (Tague) Schreiner, was born in Correctionville, Iowa, on March 26, 1922. As a very young child, he moved with his family to the Graceville-Clinton, MN, area, where he grew up and received his education.
During WW II, Dick served his country in the US merchant marine, on a military supply ship. After his discharge, he was married to Helen Broome, on July 31, 1946. They lived in New Jersey for a short time, before coming to Moorhead, MN, in 1947. Dick worked as an electrician for the BN railroad, until he retired in 1982.
In 1977, the family moved to their lake home, near Detroit Lakes, MN. In 1990, they moved to Bare Foot Bay, Florida. His wife, Helen, died in 1991. In April of 1992, Dick moved to Dilworth, MN, where he had lived since. Until recently, Dick had worked as a contract security officer at the Moorhead American Crystal Sugar beet plant.
Richard "Dick" Schreiner Jr. died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at the age of 85, at Innovis Health in Fargo, ND. He is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Theresa, Ronald and Roger Rosell; three brothers, Donald (Dot) Schreiner, Moorhead, William (June) Schreiner, Mandan, ND and James (Gerane) Schreiner, Moorhead; and two sisters, Lorita (Howard) Nelson, Dilworth, and Lorraine (Gerald) Gilbertson, Audubon, MN.
Visitation: Monday, March 3, 2008, from 4 PM to 6 PM, with a prayer service at 6 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral Mass: Tuesday, at 10:30 AM, in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth.
Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
