Richard L. McLaughlin, 71, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, in Bethany on University, Fargo.
Richard was born on March 31, 1949, to Kenneth and Donna (Holland) McLaughlin, in Fargo. Richard was born and raised in the area and graduated from Fargo North High School in 1967. Following high school Richard joined the Army, becoming an Army Cavalry Officer, and then went to NDSU for history graduating in 1976.
On August 14, 1970, Richard was united in marriage to Colleen Swanson, in Hope Lutheran Church, Fargo. Together they made their home in Fargo and had two daughters, Kristinia and Elizabeth.
Richard was an avid fisherman. He and Colleen would enjoy their time at their lake cabin, and finding their own adventures exploring area lakes nearby. Richard was always happy spending his days fishing alone or enjoying the peace and quiet. Colleen on the other hand was more of an extrovert and would encourage him to come along when she went on various outings and they never failed to have a good time together. Richard loved sppending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandson. He was also into classical music and enjoyed watching the History Channel.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Kristinia (Ken) Gudgel, and Elizabeth (Phillip) Ovitt; granddaughters, Kyra (John) Goblirsch, Kendra Gudgel, Rylie Cody; grandson, Ryker Cody; great-grandson, Theodore Goblirsch; sisters, Patricia McLaughlin, Annie McLaughlin-Overcast, and Nancy McLaughlin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen; and parents, Kenneth and Donna.
A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. A memorial service for Richard will take place on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at 11 AM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND.
