Richard Lundon

November 17, 1925 — July 24, 2013

Richard John Lundon was born November 17, 1925, in Ada MN. He was the son of William and Eleanor (Zenner) Lundon.

Richard served in the armed forces during WWII. At seventeen years of age, he was a runner for his mortar crew, a highly dangerous job. He was also part of the third wave of the Normandy invasion. He served for three years, from 1942 to 1945. If you asked him, he could tell you exactly how many years, days and hours that he served his country.

In 1957, he married his soulmate, Betty Schroeder. They were happily married for fifty-six years. They had one son and four daughters: Bill, Dianna, Colleen, Patty and Pam.

Richard was a wonderful husband and father. He was always there to listen and to offer advice. He was someone that we could always count on to be there for us. He could also be quite the prankster, always finding new ways to keep people on their toes. This included rigging up buckets of water in his screenhouse where he spent many of his summer days. Nobody was ever safe and he passed that trait along to his children and his grandchildren. He loved his family dearly and had been known to tear up while watching home movies. There was always love and laughter in their home.

He was an honorable, patriotic man. Richard was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He stood firm on being an American and on his Irish heritage. Perhaps it was the leprechaun in him that would come out every once in a while. You would see it in the twinkle of his eyes.

We could not have asked for a better husband, dad, and grandpa. We loved him so very much and he will live in our hearts forever. His greatest treasures were his children and grandchildren.
Richard died Wednesday morning, July 24, 2013, in his home surrounded by loved ones, at eighty-seven years of age.

In addition to his wife, Betty, he leaves one son and four daughters, Dianna (Lydell) Branden of Odessa, TX, William (Ilene) Lundon of Moorhead, Colleen (Jerome) Ostgarden of Dilworth, Patricia (Neil) Munro of Page, ND, and Pamela Grover (fiance', Rick Sweeney, and his children, Alex and Austin) of Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren, Justin and Ryan Branden, Cassandra Ostgarden (fiance', Jon Norman), Samantha and Jayde Grover, and Brady and Aiden Munro; and four sisters, Dorothy (Henry) Aaby, Joan (Mark) Chisholm, Ellen (Ron) Holtman, and Phyllis (Clayton) Drake.

He was preceded in death by his brother, William (Geri) Lundon; and his sister, Norrine (Richard) Rockstad.
