Richard Francis Schultz, 76, passed peacefully in his sleep Thursday, February 7, 2013, at his Fargo, ND, home surrounded by family, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Richard was born to Francis and Thelma (Holm) Schultz in St. Paul, MN, September 9, 1936. Dick grew up in St. Paul and graduated from White Bear Lake (MN) High School in 1954. He attended Moorhead State Teachers College, where he met his future wife Sharlene Sobolik. They were united in marriage August 13, 1955, at Fordville Lutheran Church, Fordville, ND; after which they made their home in Moorhead.

Dick worked for Northern States Power (XCEL Energy) until his retirement in 1991. They enjoyed summers at Lake Sybil in the cabin which Dick (and friends and family) built in 1963.

They began spending time in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, and Phoenix, Arizona, in 1978. Upon Dick's retirement, winters were spent at the Ft. Myers Beach condo. Dick enjoyed fishing on Lake Sybil, the Gulf of Mexico, and Lake Michigan. He also enjoyed hunting ducks, geese, deer, and bear. Dick was involved in Boy Scouts with his two sons. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Dick is survived by his wife, Sharlene and four children, Sheryl Hustad, Fargo, Michael, Big Pine Lake, Perham, MN, Mark (Terri), Fargo, and Susan (Rene') Philippot, Moorhead; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Nevada) Hustad, Kayla, Kelsey, Ashley and Jenna Schultz, Nicole, Carly, and Zachary Philippot; and four great-grandchildren, Elijah, Sundai, Bella and Jersie.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Visitation: Monday, 5 PM to 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead

Memorial Service: Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at 11:00 AM, in Our Savior's Church, Moorhead.
