Robert Clark Hastings was born July 4, 1926, in St. Paul, MN, to Rodney and Beth (Harvey) Hastings. Bob grew up in Fargo, ND, where he graduated from Fargo Central High School.
Bob enlisted in the US Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge, Bob enrolled at NDSU. He graduated in 1950, with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture.
Bob was united in marriage to Kathryn "Kay" Olson on August 28, 1948, at First Presbyterian Church in Fargo. Following their marriage, Bob and Kay lived in Fargo, and later moved to a farm near Felton, MN, where they farmed until retiring in 1984. They lived on the farm until moving to Fargo in 1993.
Bob enjoyed community activities in Felton. He also loved weekends and family reunions at their cabin near Detroit Lakes, MN. Bob also loved countless fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. Another favorite activity was hunting with his sons and friends.
Bob was an excellent dancer and his favorite dance was the jitterbug. One of Bob's hobbies was cartooning which he became interested in while attending high school. His cartoons were in the student paper and annuals. He also had cartoons in the NDSU student paper as well as their yearbooks. Bob loved figure skating and, in the winter months, performed in programs at the indoor ice rink located at the foot of Broadway in Fargo. Bob was known for his great sense of humor, warm smile, and his love of singing his favorite songs.
Bob died peacefully on Saturday, July 9, 2016, in Elim Rehab and Care Center, Fargo, at ninety years of age.
Bob is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Kathryn, Fargo; children, James (Mary) Hastings, Felton, Bradley (Connie) Hastings, Ottertail, MN, and Beth Lee (Steve) Waskosky, Deer Creek, MN; grandchildren, Joseph (Bridget) Hastings, John (Kyla) Hastings, Philip Hastings, Chris (Jessie) Barker, and Paul Barker; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Marlene) Hastings, Bismarck, ND; a nephew and two nieces; and numerous extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Elim Rehab and Care Center, Hospice of the Red River Valley, Pastor Karla Mickelson of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Felton, and Pastor John Jorgensen for their wonderful care offered to Bob and family.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 14, 2016, from 6 - 8 PM, with a prayer service at 8 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
A memorial service will be Friday, July 15, 2016, at 2 PM, in the chapel at Elim Rehab and Care Center.
Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
