Robert Carl Reedy, 101, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at The Valley Inn Home, Mancos CO, where he had lived for the past three years. He was known as "Bob" to friends and co-workers, but his family called him "Carl".
Robert was born to Joseph and Josephine (Parsley) Reedy in Wilkinsburg, PA, His family lived in Indianapolis, IN, where his father worked for the phone company. The family moved to Esmond SD, in 1918, and they lived on several farms and Robert graduated from eighth grade. Following graduation, he worked on farms near Esmond, Indianapolis and Moorhead MN.
Robert married Margaret Schroeder on February 6, 1935, in Moorhead. They moved to Minneapolis, MN, where he owned a bakery. He eventually began working for the Winston Brothers, a Minneapolis construction company.
In 1940, his employer sent him to Columbia, South America to train the locals to operate Caterpillar bulldozers to build roads. Margaret remained in MN for a while but eventually joined him. They returned to SD in 1945 where Robert farmed and then owned a farm implement store.
In 1951, Robert and Margaret moved to Seattle, WA, where he worked for Boeing Airplane Company. Margaret died in 1958. At Boeing, Robert met Bertha "Cindy" Colson Seder and they married in 1961. Although his formal education may have lacked, he worked on the wheels of the lunar vehicle and missile installations near Warrensburg, MO.
Robert and Cindy retired in 1971 and they moved to Durango, CO, and they built a home near Hermosa Springs. They found a malamute dog, which they named Juneau and became doting dog owners. After Juneau, they loved a second malamute, Kodi. Cindy died April 29, 1985.
In 2000, Robert met and married Norma Britton Petersen. Norma died in September of 2009.
Throughout his life, he was a proud car owner. He bought first new car, a Plymouth coupe, in 1936. After retiring to CO, he owned pickups with extra gas tanks and plenty of horsepower. Whatever he had it was quality and well tended. After he owned dog

Memorials may be given to your local animal shelter in memory of Robert. After he discovered malamutes, he became a devoted dog lover and his face would light up when dogs visited him at the nursing home.
