Robert G. Lemke, 81, Fargo, ND, died Thursday, at his home in Fargo.
Bob was born February 2, 1931, in Wausau, WI, to Edward and Florence Lemke. After Florence died in 1934, Bob was raised by his aunt and uncle, Herman and Elise "Lizzie" Sommerfeld, in Alice, ND. Bob attended Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo, where he graduated in 1949.
On February 10, 1951, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Teigland, in Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo, and Bob and Ruth began their life-long journey together. The men's clothing business became Bob's profession and passion, as he started his career at JC Penney's and then at Ted Evanson's.
Bob's career was interrupted by military service, as he reported for basic training in Columbia, SC, in 1952. He was posted for duty with the US Army in Germany, and was honorably discharged, as a corporal, in 1954. Bob rejoined Ruth in Fargo and resumed his career at The Fargo Toggery, Northport Clothiers, American Man, and finally at Dayton's, until his retirement in 1996. Bob worked part-time at Ameriprise Financial for several years, as he enjoyed the interactions with colleagues and clients. Bob's sense of style, engaging personality, and commitment to detail and customer service made him a valued contributor to any organization.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth, Fargo; his son, Steve, Gainesville, FL; daughter, Kristi (Lorne) Jacobson, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; grandchildren, Niklas Lemke, Oslo, Norway, Elyse (Doug) Van Spronsen, Edmonton, Alberta, and Tyler Jacobson, Calgary; a brother, Edward (Ione) Lemke, St. Paul, MN, the cousins that they were raised with, Marlene (Dave) Hubert, Chesapeake, VA, and Larry (Joanne) Sommerfeld, Fargo; and various nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Bob was preceded in death by his infant brother, James; his parents; and his aunt and uncle.
