Robert Luckow

Robert "Bob" Luckow, 84, Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, May 18, 2014, in Arbor Park Living, Moorhead.

Robert Eugene Arnold Luckow was born on November 19, 1929, to Emil and Ida (Flakne) Luckow, in St. Paul, MN. In 1930's, the family moved to Mahnomen, MN. Bob graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1948. He enlisted in the US Army in 1952 and served stateside during the Korean Conflict, until 1954.

He farmed near Mahnomen for several years, and later began working for the Fargo Park District in 1968. "Engineer Bob," as he was known, worked at Yunker Farm and drove the children's train, which he rebuilt himself. It even bears his name to this day!

On January 8, 1974, he married Ida Thompson. They resided in Moorhead for many years and had city-renowned gardens in the summer and Christmas decorations in the winter, both featured by the local TV stations seasonally. After his wife passed in 1998, Bob began cultivating a successful tomato garden, giving canned goods of all sorts to his friends and family. It was not often that Bob would leave the house without something, out of his kitchen or pressure cooker, to give to another. His life was marked by his generous spirit and his desire to help those he loved and those in need.

Bob is survived by two brothers, Rodger (Beverly) Luckow and John (Cheryl) Luckow; a sister, Shirley (Alden) Hirsch; brother in-law, Ray (June) Anderson; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Luckow; many special nieces and nephews; and a stepdaughter-in-law, Sharon Strande and her family.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Lucille; brothers, Ernest, Clarence, Walter and Norman; and sister, Muriel Anderson.

Visitation: one hour prior to the service. Funeral Service: Thursday, May 22, 2014, at 2 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Memorials preferred to the Maintenance Fund at the Children's Museum at Yunker Farm, Fargo
