Robert MacLeod

Robert (Bob) MacLeod, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006.

Born to Dan and Hulda MacLeod in Minneapolis, MN, on March 15, 1928, Robert graduated from Isle (MN) High School in 1946. He received his bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees in education from the University of Minnesota.

During his teen years, Bob worked as a fireman on the Great Lakes ore boats. Following college, Robert taught social studies and coached football, basketball and baseball at Isle High School. He taught in both Brainerd, MN, and at Moorhead State Campus School before serving Moorhead State University as graduate dean in physical education, registrar and Vice President of personnel services, retiring in 1987. After retiring, Millie and Bob moved to Florida. They returned to Minnesota to spend summers at their lake home on Pelican Lake.

After high school, Robert enlisted in the US Army. He was assigned to the field artillery and then transferred to the last horse cavalry squadron in the United States. Commissioned an officer in 1950, he attended Mountain Warfare School and volunteered as a paratrooper for the 11th Airborne Division. He also taught at the engineering school in Fort Belvoir, VA, and at the Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Robert retired in 1980 as a bird colonel, after 35 years of military service.

Robert enjoyed reading, piloting his small aircraft, and sports: football, basketball, handball, racquetball and golf.

Robert married Millie Moen from Larimore, ND, on June 9, 1956. He is survived by his wife, Millie, Plant City, FL; daughters, Barbara MacLeod, Delaware, Ohio and Mary (Mark) Huntington, Lakeland, FL; son, Robert B. MacLeod, Austin, TX; four grandchildren
Memorial service: Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at 11 AM,
Cormorant Lutheran Church, Lake Park, MN.


Inurnment: Cormorant Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Park.
