Roland Lackmann

Roland “Rollie” Lackmann, 91, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023, in the VA Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Roland (Rollie) Lackmann was born on October 6, 1931, in Mitchell, Nebraska to Mary and George Lackmann and was the youngest of the family. At the age of five, his family moved to a farm just south of Hardin, Montana where they lived for about eight years. While in Hardin, Rollie attended a one-room school in St. Xavier, Montana. In 1943, the family moved to Moorhead and Rollie was enrolled at the high school campus of Moorhead State Teachers College, where he graduated in 1949.

Upon graduation, Rollie completed seven quarters at Moorhead State Teachers College before he was drafted into the Army and headed to the Korean War via California’s Fort Ord. He served four months in the 780th field artillery before his typing skills landed him as a battery clerk for the next 16 months. Upon his return from active duty, he returned to Moorhead and completed his college studies, graduating with a degree in History.

On August 17, 1959, Rollie was united in marriage to Patricia Radermacher in St. Alexis Catholic Church in West Union, MN.  The made their home in Moorhead and for the next 30 years, Rollie farmed near Dilworth until the 1980s farm crisis took its toll. He subsequently took on the role of Territory Manager for Dornberger Insurance Company and covered North Dakota and northern Minnesota.

In retirement Rollie enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and playing golf.  For many years Rollie and Pat spent many winters in Texas, especially Fredericksburg.

He’s survived by his wife of 63 years, Pat; children, Keith (Lou), Ken, Teresa (Doug) Morris, and Mary (Eric) Poole; grandchildren, Matt, Melissa (Cam), Hannah, Grace, Erin, Lucia, Malcolm, Gwen, Miles, Mady, and Westley; sister Carolyn (Donald) Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rollie was preceded in death by parents, George and Mary; and brothers Leonard, Chuck, and Rich.

In lieu of flowers, Rollie's family requests that memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.  

A Visitation for Rollie will be Monday, January 23, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead.

Burial with Military Honors will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead in the Spring.
