Roland Olson

August 28, 1942 — February 18, 2012

Roland Harry Olson was born August 28, 1942, to Harry and Ellen (Carlson) Olson in Parke Township, Rollag, MN. He attended school at Rollag District 3 and Hawley (MN) High School.

Roland married Loretta Nelson on July 31, 1965, in Hawley. He was employed as a truck driver for Allied Van Lines, North American Van Lines, and Fitzgerald Construction of Sabin, MN.

Roland enjoyed fishing, especially on a quiet little lake. He appreciated the beauty around him and loved to watch nature. He would take many drives to the lakes or through the countryside to watch the loons and deer or drive past the fields in the Spring or Fall to check on the growth of the crops and the harvest.

Roland enjoyed a challenge and would jump right in to any home repair, carpentry or auto repair project. Always willing to help out his neighbors and friends, he would assist with fixing items for them or would share some tomatoes from his garden.

Roland also had a quick wit. He would write beautiful poetry and enjoyed watching old Western movies - if they were in black and white.

The death of their son, Larry, was so very difficult and Roland would go to the cemetery each Christmas Eve to place a lit candle at Larry's grave.
Roland entered Eventide Lutheran Home in December of 2011, and died there on Saturday, February 18, 2012.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Loretta, Moorhead; siblings, Harvey (Shirley) Olson, Buffalo, MN, Gail (Marvin) Zimmerman, Moorhead, and Beverly (Roland) Morton, Audubon, MN; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Brandy.

Roland was preceded in death by his son, Larry; parents, Harry and Ellen Olson; and brothers, Vincent and Donald Olson.

His funeral will be Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at 11 AM, in Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.

Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5 - 7 PM, with a Prayer Service at 7 PM,in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
