Rolland D. Porter

Rolland Dean Porter was born September 30, 1942, to Clifford and Annette (Lehmann) Porter, in Breckenridge, MN. Rolland was raised in Tintah, MN, where he attended school.

He enlisted in the US Army and served from November 18, 1959 to June 11, 1969, when he was honorably discharged after being injured during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, Rolland returned to Minnesota. He later married Susan Markegard in Moorhead, MN, where they made their home. Rolland was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Rolland died Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND, at seventy-two years of age.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Kevin Porter, Moorhead, Kerry Porter, Iowa, Candida (Rhoel) Eugenio, Fridley, MN, Corrina Hasbargen, Villard, MN, and Rolland "Raliegh" D.S. (Amber) Porter I, Fargo; nine grandchildren, Anthony and Amanda Van Batavia, Mariah Porter, Reyah and Ginah Eugenio, Kara and Kammie Nelson, Kylie Porter, and Miguel Eugenio; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Dennis (Joan) Porter, Moorhead, and Robert Porter, Egan, SD; and sisters, Loyse Porter, Lake Park, MN, and Roxanne (Roy) Haskins, Perley, MN.

Rolland was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene and Clifford Porter; and a sister, Marlene Wrolson.

Rolland was a Life Member of Albert E. Johnson Post 1223, Dilworth, MN, where he served as Commander from 1994 - 1995. He was appointed National Aide-de-Camp from 1992 - 1993, 1994 - 1995, and 1995 - 1996. He served as Ninth District Commander from 1998 - 1999, and National Deputy Chief of Staff from 1995 - 1996, 1999 - 2000, 2001 - 2002, 2002 - 2003, and 2003 - 2004. Rolland also volunteered for the Moorhead Police Department for many years.

Visitation for Rolland will be Sunday, February 8, 2015, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church, Moorhead

His funeral will be Monday, February 9, 2015, at 2 PM, in Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church.

Burial, with full military honors, will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
