Roma Gilbertson was born October 7, 1912 on the Gilbertson family farm west of Audubon. Her parents were Dinah Klaboe and Alfred Gilbertson.
In 1931, Roma and Ole Volden were united in marriage. They had two children, Ronald, who passed away in January 2002, and Diane Hurner, Moorhead. Ole passed away in 1966.
Roma worked at various places during her lifetime, including Swanson's Grocery and the Co-op Store, Audubon Hatchery, Audubon Public Schools, and was the assistant postmaster in Audubon until she retired. She also contributed the local news to the Detroit Lakes Record for many years. She entered Golden Living Center, Moorhead, in 1998, and had lived there until her death on Thursday, March 6, 2008. She was 95 years old.
Roma is survived by her daughter, Diane Hurner, Moorhead; brother, Lowell Gilbertson and his wife Isabelle, Henderson, NV; and a daughter-in-law, Helen Volden, Hamilton, MT; four grandsons; two granddaughters; eleven great-grand children; three step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Phillip, Wallace, and Alden; and her sisters Adeline Wegner, and Doris Luitjens.
Roma's funeral will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 3 PM, in First Lutheran Church of Audubon, MN.
