Ronald Gene Olson, 72, Dilworth, MN, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Sanford Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND.
Ron was born May 6, 1940, to Bennie and Mae (Lindholm) Olson in Barnesville, MN, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1958. After graduation, Ron joined the Navy and served as an aircraft electrician from 1958-1962. Following his time in the Navy, Ron became a member of the Air National Guard. He retired after twenty-two years of service.
In 1966, Ron graduated from MSU with a degree in elementary education. He taught sixth grade at Dilworth Elementary for thirty-two years. Ron started the golf program at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School and coached for many years. In 1975, he completed his Master's Degree in Educational Administration at NDSU, Fargo.
On June 6, 1981, Ron married Virginia "Ginny" Swenson, of Dilworth, at the Methodist Church in Moorhead. Ron and Ginny welcomed their son Kevin, on December 7, 1982.
Ron was an active member of the community throughout his life serving on the Dilworth Fire Department, Dilworth Planning Committee, the Consolidation Committee for combining Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Schools, was a member of the Parish Council, and taught religion classes for St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Dilworth.
Ron's many hobbies included traveling, flying airplanes, hunting, fishing, and above all golfing. Ron and his son spent endless hours on the golf course during their summers off. Ron had a sense of humor that will be remembered by many and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of almost thirty-two years, Ginny; his son, Kevin (Lindsey) Olson of Otsego, MN; stepdaughter, Karen Motschenbacher of Fairbanks, AK; sister, Connie (Jim) Grenander of Richfield, MN; mother-in-law, Margaret Swenson of Moorhead; brother-in-law, Donnie (Dianne) Swenson of Moorhead; and grandchildren, Hanley and Hudson Olson of Otsego, Dillon Manns of Fairbanks, and Dusty Bergee, who is working in Afghanistan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Mae; father-in-law, Arnt Swenson; and step-daughter, Carla (Motschenbacher) Bergee.

Visitation for Ron will be Friday, May 3, 2013, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth.
The funeral mass will be Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 2 PM, in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.
Burial, with full military honors, will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
