Roy C. Erickson was peacefully called home on Monday, March 4, 2013, at the age of eighty-nine. He will be remembered for his kind, gentle nature, his quick-witted humor, inventive and creative mechanical abilities, strong work ethic, and love and loyalty for his family.
Roy was born in Velva, ND, on February 15, 1924, to Martin and Minnie Erickson. He grew up with a sister and four brothers, moving to Moorhead, MN, and later to Fertile, MN, where he graduated high school.
At age nineteen, Roy was drafted into the US Army during WWII. He reached the rank of Technical Sergeant after three years as a radio communications specialist in Germany, Holland and Czechoslovakia. After the war, Roy attended Milwaukee School of Engineering in Wisconsin, to study auto mechanics.
He met and married the love of his life, Pearl Krogstad, in July of 1950. Together they raised six children in the home he built in north Fargo, ND. Pearl died in August 2010, after they celebrated sixty years of marriage.
Roy was employed by Northern States Power Company for thirty-six years as an Electrical Linecrew Foreman. His retirement was spent travelling with Pearl in their motor home, working on his brother's farm, and tinkering on numerous projects.
Roy is survived by his son, Mart (Linn), Grants Pass, OR; five daughters, Jane (David) Erickson, Fargo, Joan Erickson, Phoenix, AZ, Judy (Tom) Ihle, Glyndon, MN, Jeneen (Craig) Newman, Boise, ID, and Janice Smith, Sioux Falls, SD; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Vern Erickson, of Fertile.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl; sister, Mildred Dow; and brothers, Willard, Wayne and Rolland Erickson.
His family would like to thank all the caregivers at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead for the wonderful care he received over the past two years. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or your favorite charity.
