Roy Engelking

Roy Frank Engelking, 79, Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013, in Golden Living Center, Moorhead.

Roy was born October 12, 1933, in Hankinson, ND, to Reuben and Martha (Stanhope) Engelking. They moved to Fargo, ND, when he was a young child. He graduated from high school in Fargo in 1951. On August 7, 1951, he was united in marriage to LaVonne "Bonnie" Ann Miller and resided in Fargo until 1961, when they moved to Moorhead where they would spend 61 years together. Roy held many jobs as a young man, including working at the Red Owl Bakery, Miller's Sheet Metal and Laney's.

Roy enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family. His passion was fishing, no matter what time of year it was. He also enjoyed camping in his motorhome and hunting. He loved watching the history and nature shows, especially Discovery Channel before it became popular. On Sunday afternoons you could find him in his recliner watching the Vikings or taking a nap, depending on whether or not they were winning. One thing you could count on was his willingness to help when your furnace or AC didn't work. He took pride in his ability to help, no matter how big or little the job.

Roy is survived by his children, Jolene Engelking of Horace, ND, Debbie Barnett of West Fargo, ND, Mike (Julie) Engelking of Moorhead and Steve (Laurie) Engelking of Crookston, MN; grandchildren, Elizabeth Kuhn, Monique Sauvageau, Todd Sauvageau, David Luptak, Amy Cossette, Justin Bortle, Jeremy Bortle, Shawn Barnett, Darin Barnett, Amanda Dollinger, Taylor Engelking, Austyn Engelking, Alexis Engelking; many great-grandchildren; his siblings, Wayne (Barb) Engelking of Fort Towson, OK and Ronald Engelking of West Fargo; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, "Bonnie"; son, Daniel Roy Engelking; daughter, Terri Ann Sauvageau; grandsons, Jasen Lee Sauvageau and Charles Roy Luptak.
