Ruth Colleen Nelson was born July 3, 1931, in Staples, MN, to Francis and Pauline (Sweet) Nelson, the eldest of twelve children. Ruth was raised in Staples where she graduated from high school.
Ruth was united in marriage to Harold Vernon Hanson on August 30, 1949, in Dilworth, MN, where they made their home. Ruth worked as a seamstress in the upholstery department, for Silverline Boats, Moorhead, MN, for many years.
Ruth and Harold moved to Big Cormorant Lake in the 1980s. She entered Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, MN, in 2004, and Harold died in December of 2008. Ruth died Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, at eighty-one years of age.
Ruth loved to sew and crochet, a skill she was able to pass on to her children and grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Gladys (Junior) Howlett, Moorhead, Mary Ellen (Dan) Huber, Glyndon, MN, and Joyce (Bruce) Shellito, Columbia Heights, MN; one son, Merle (Susan) Hanson, Dilworth; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; five sisters, Juanita (Richard) Allee, Plymouth, MN, Elnora Dempsey and Rosemary (Reginald) Petrich, both Staples, Patronell (Gary) Steinke, Boyd, MN, and Dorothy Hall, St. Cloud, MN; and one brother, Charles Nelson, South Dakota.
Ruth's family would like to encourage you to plant a tree or some type of flowers as a living memorial to Ruth. They would also like to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley as well as Sunnyside Care Center for their love and compassion shown to Ruth and her family these past few years.
The Memorial Service for Ruth will be Sunday, September 30, 2012, at 3 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Visitation will be in the Korsmo Chapel after 2 PM.
