Ruth Evelyn Otterburn was born August 27, 1916, to Miles and Gertrude (Gardner) Otterburn, on the family farmstead near Lidgerwood, ND. She graduated from Lidgerwood High School and from Valley City (ND) Teachers College. After graduation, Ruth taught school in Dexter Township, ND, and in LaVerne, ND.
On June 14, 1947, Ruth married Robert Wohlwend Sr. in Fargo, ND. They made their home in the Wyndmere, ND, area where Ruth also taught school. In 1949, they moved to Wolverton, MN, where they farmed and Ruth continued to teach. She eventually retired from teaching to raise their family.
The couple retired from farming in 1985, and in January of 2006, they began living with their son, Robert Jr. in Moorhead. Robert Sr. passed away on March 4, 2008, and Ruth continued to live with her son. On December 16, 2011, she became a resident at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, and went to be with her Lord on December 27, 2011, at the age of ninety-five.
Ruth had an amazing memory, remembering every birthday, anniversary and significant event in her family's and friends lives. She was a devoted mother; spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild was her greatest joy.
She is survived by her three children, Cheryl Cloutier, San Francisco, CA, Robert Wohlwend Jr., Moorhead, and Roxann Henderson, Ham Lake, MN; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan) Froseth, Robert Wohlwend III, and Theresa, Brady and Travis Henderson; a great-granddaughter, Ava Evelyn Froseth; and several nieces and nephews.
