Ruth Swanson (Eastlund)
April 20, 1914 ~ August 15, 2008
Ruth was a lifelong member of Bethesda Lutheran Church of Moorhead. She was a charter member of Moorhead Altrusa International, a service organization. Ruth was one of the founding organizers of the Children's Harbor School, a school for children with disabilities.
She was also a member of the Swedish Society, volunteered at St. Ansgar Hospital, sang with the Lincoln School Mothers Singers, and was instrumental in the beginning of the Moorhead Thrift Store. She continued to volunteer until just recently. According to Ellen and Bill, Ruth was also one of their best customers. In 2007, Ruth was honored for contributing thirty-one years of significant service to the community as a senior volunteer.
Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Sharon (Robert) Teschendorf, Pelican Rapids, MN, and Ellen Dew, Moorhead, MN; three sons, Bruce (Maurine) Swanson, Elbow Lake, MN, Tim (Peggy) Swanson, St. Louis Park, MN, and Bill (Sheryl) Swanson, Fargo; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Ruth will be Tuesday, August 19, 2008, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Her funeral will be Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at 11 AM, in Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
