Ruth Langseth

March 7, 1916 — June 5, 2013

Ruth Evangeline was born in rural Clay County, March 7, l916. She was the eleventh child of Joseph and Emma (Bodeen) Rosenquist. Ruth attended School District #102 from 1922 to 1929 and graduated from Glyndon High School in l933. She worked as a domestic in Fargo from l933 to March 15, l936, when she married Norman Langseth. Ruth and Norman bought a dairy farm south of Glyndon during the Depression where they lived for 68 years until Norman's death in 2004. Ruth was busy on the farm raising 6 children and 6 foster children. She filled her days with gardening, quilting, sewing, canning and occasionally hand-milking a cantankerous Holstein.

Ruth would sew clothing for her growing family by cutting the pattern herself from old newspapers. Many times she cut apart used clothing to make into smaller clothes for the children. Ever resourceful, she would use the pattern multiple times by cutting it down to smaller sizes. She also did quilting. There is no way to know how many quilts she made through the years, but she always had both a pink and a blue baby blanket ready for the birth of each grandchild. In their retirement years, Norm and Ruth spent their winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.

Ruth passed into glory June 5, 2013 at Viking Manor, Ulen, MN, at the age of 97. She is survived by six children, Carol (Gordon) Ekre, Keith (Lorraine) Langseth, N. Ellery (Eleanor) Langseth, Shirley (Larry) Swenson, Beverly (Allen) Gjersvig, and Laurel (Ronald) Gerig; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 7 step great-grandchildren; 14 step great-great-grandchildren; and four foster children.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; 10 brothers and sisters; her husband; one grandchild; 2 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.
