Sandra Rae (Gunkel) Skjaret, 73, Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014, in Sanford Health Palliative Care Unit, Fargo.
Sandra Gunkel was born September 16, 1941, the oldest of four daughters of Harland and Evelyn Gunkel in Dilworth, MN. She grew up and attended school in Dilworth, graduating in 1959. In 1967, she was united in marriage to Roger Skjaret. They established their home in Fargo where they raised six children together. Sandy did child care for many years for the neighborhood children, earning the nickname, "Grandma Sandy."
Sandy was a Lifetime member of the Moorhead VFW Post 1223 Ladies Auxiliary. She volunteered many hours at the VFW working and getting people to help with bingo, serving luncheons, and eventually working as a waitress. Sandy really enjoyed working bingo and doing crazy things like, wearing roller skates to sell bingo cards or dressing up in costumes with her dad and buddy, Jim. She also enjoyed hunting with family and friends and dancing with her husband.
She is survived by her children, Sheila (Dale) Nelson, Tower City, ND, Russell (Beverly) Hanson, DeRidder, LA, Lori (Jon) Pickett, Fargo, Michelle Erickson, Fargo and Rhonda (Bryan) Sunde, Glyndon, MN; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna (Al) Adams, Billings, MO, Kay (Brad) Byklum, Glyndon, and Linda (Gary) Knutson, Fargo; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death her parents; husband, Roger; and son, Roger, Jr.
Memorial Services for Sandra will be Saturday, October 18, 2014, at 10:30 AM, in the Mavis Whiting Chapel at Bethany on University, 201 South University Dr., Fargo.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo.
