Sharon I. Cory, 75, of Dilworth, MN, was received into the Glory of Heaven May 29, 2019, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND
Sharon Ilona Souder was born on April 29, 1944, the daughter of Earl and Selma (Olson) Souder at Halma, MN. She grew up and attended school at Halma and graduated from Karlstad High School in 1962. Sharon was baptized and confirmed at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Halma where, on June 9, 1962, she married John Wayne Cory. They resided in Lancaster, MN, for many years; in more recent years in Shelly, Dilworth, and Frazee, all in MN.
Sharon worked as an art teacher in Lancaster Elementary School, switching to a teacher's aide when the state required an art degree. She also was a seamstress for Arctic Cat. She was always a farm wife, tended her garden and a herd of sheep, taught Sunday school, and raised her six kids. She followed John through many careers after farming in Lancaster; a herdsman for registered cattle, a dairy farmer, and co-owner with Anthony of Highway 75 Welding and Manufacturing in Shelly, where she ran a café in the front of the building. Each new job meant a new set of skills for her too, as they worked side by side.
Sharon was a wonderful artist. She loved to draw, sew clothing, upholster furniture, but most of all, paint. As she lost her sight, she was often heard saying she wished she could still paint.
Survivors include her sons, Anthony (Michelle) Cory, Ogema, MN, Scott (Kim) Cory, Red Wing, MN, and Ryan (Melanie) Cory, Moorhead, MN; daughters, Julie (AJ) Fridgen, Nielsville, MN, Jana (Norman) Wegener, Alexandria, MN, and Tonya (Matthew) Russell of Montrose, MN; grandchildren, Ben (Melissa) Soyring, Skyler (Taylor) Soyring, Preston LaDue, Terron Gettle, Maggie Cory, Trista (Charles) Francis, Kendra (Matthew) Boelman, Alynn and Ella Fridgen, Emma, Riley, Elsa, and Elianna Cory and Phillip (Monroe) Wegener, Lauren (John) Capps, and Ericka (Jordan) Roatch, Hadley Cory, Marcus, Brooklyn, and Rebecca Russell; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother, Neil Souder; sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
