Shirley Bergquist

Shirley A. Bergquist, 84, of Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, August. 4, 2019, in Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Shirley Anne Weyhrauch, the daughter of Walter and Avis (Nelson) Weyhrauch was born April 14, 1935, in the family home in Foxhome, MN, with a mid-wife attending, during a snowstorm. She attended elementary school in Foxhome and graduated from Breckenridge (MN) High School in 1953.

Later that same year, Shirley married Lowell Lee Bergquist. They first lived in Foxhome and in 1959, moved to Dilworth, MN, where they raised their family. Lowell died in 1972. Shirley later moved from Dilworth to Moorhead to live with her sister.

Shirley worked at the Montgomery Wards Store in Moorhead, and later in the office of Dilworth High School, until retiring in June of 2000, after 31 years. She was an active member of Dilworth Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and was a soloist for many weddings and funerals. She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as post commander. She was a volunteer at the Fargo VA Hospital and other worthy organizations. She loved music and playing bingo. Shirley was a wonderful mother and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.

Shirley is survived by four children, LeeAnn (Bud) Stieha, Fargo, Lujean (Kenneth Jr.) Highness, Dilworth, Bill (Annie) Bergquist, Moorhead, and Lori (Jonnie) Quittschreiber, Dilworth; sisters, Wynne Hendrickson, Breckenridge, and Ilene Wheeler, Moorhead; six grandchildren, Michael, Meghan, Mallorie, Marissa, Jenna and Jake; and eight very special great-grandchildren, Jared, Jacey, Casen, Cole, Braxton, Kaylee, Jase, and Kendall. In addition to her husband, Lowell, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wesley Weyhrauch; two sisters, Donna Morrissy and Lucille Wilson; and four brothers-in-law, Elmer Hendrickson, Ralph Wheeler, George Morrissy, and Ralph Wilson.

Visitation for Shirley Bergquist will be Friday, August 9, 2019, from 4 PM until 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Dilworth Lutheran Church.

Her funeral service will be Saturday, at 11 AM, also in Dilworth Lutheran Church.

She will be buried beside her husband in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN.
