Shirley A. Elliott, 81, of Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, July 10, 2016, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.
Shirley A. Plante was born November 27, 1934, the daughter of Thomas and Lucille (Perrault) Plante, in Oklee, MN. She was raised in Brooks, MN, where she attended school and then worked as a waitress in Thief River Falls, MN.
On June 19, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert James Elliott in Brooks. They established their home in Thief River Falls. In 1955, they moved to Moorhead and then to Hawley in 1958. After Robert's retirement they moved to a home on Lake Ida and returned to Moorhead in 2003.
Shirley was a founding member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Hawley and a current member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead. She was a member of the Catholic Ladies Aide and helped serve many turkey dinners over the years.
Shirley loved baking, cooking, playing cards, bingo, and an occasional trip to the casino. She and Robert loved traveling to many places throughout in the U.S and Mexico. They spent many winters in Arizona and Texas. While wintering in Arizona, Shirley belonged to the Red Hat Ladies in Mesa. She had a great love and devotion to her family and was "Mom" to many others over the years.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Ron Elliott, Vicky (Daniel) Osowski, and James (Arika) Elliott, all of Moorhead, Debra (Ellis) Aakre, Rollag, MN, and Mike Elliott, Barnesville, MN; eighteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie (Ernie) Won, Madelia, MN; brother, Sherman (Jean) Plante, Red Lake Falls, MN, and Larry (Janice) Plante, Mankato, MN; a brother-in-law, Arnold Lillo; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Kermit Ostgard; sister, Janice Lillo; and brother, Darrel Plante.
A visitation for Shirley will be Wednesday from 5 PM to 6:30 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 14, 2016, at 11 AM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
