Shirley J. Henry

Shirley J. Henry, 78, of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, December 7, 2016, in Elim Rehab and Care Center, Fargo, ND.

Shirley Jean Hefling was born September 30, 1938, the daughter of Virgil and Hildred (Smith) Hefling, in Hutchinson, KS. She was raised on a farm near Haven, KS, and graduated from Haven High School in 1956. Shirley then moved to Minneapolis, MN, where she attended Gale Institute for Airline Stewardess Training. She then went to work for Gale Institute in their Extension Division and later Greyhound Van Lines as an office assistant.

On September 13, 1958, she was united in marriage to Paul Henry in Mount Hope, KS. They made their home Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, until 1963, when they moved to Sioux City, IA. In 1968, Paul was transferred to Washington, D.C. and later to Fargo. The couple made their home in Moorhead. Shirley began selling AVON in 1970 and later served as District Manager until 1981. Shirley and Paul continued to make their home in Moorhead over the years.

Shirley enjoyed quilting, Soap Operas, crossword puzzles, shopping on QVC, gardening and attending Trollwood plays in the summer. While working for AVON, Shirley won a trip to London, England. It was during this trip, she had the chance to meet her pen pal from Liverpool, England, that she had been corresponding with for 25 years.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul; children, Brad Henry, Moorhead, and Carissa (Harold) Stirling, Fargo; grandchildren, Ian and Sydney Stirling; sister, Verla (Charles) Swindler, Sedgwick, KS; and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant brothers.

A visitation for Shirley will be one hour prior to her Funeral Service.

Her Funeral Service will be Monday, December 12, 2016, at 2 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
