Shirley M. Sanders, age 84, of Moorhead, MN, died at her home in Moorhead on Friday, October 6, 2006.



Shirley M. Norquist, the daughter of Elbert and Francis (Malmstrom) Norquist was born July 24, 1922 in St. Paul, MN, where she grew up and received her education. She graduated from high school in St. Paul, and attended and graduated from Bethesda Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, also in St. Paul.

During World War II, Shirley served as a nurse in the US Army. She served overseas in Europe. After her discharge, she returned to St. Paul, where she worked and continued her education at the University of Minnesota.
On December 8, 1947, Shirley married Robert L. Sanders, in St. Paul. They lived in Detroit Lakes, MN, St. Louis Park, MN, Milwaukee, WI, Golden Valley, MN, and New Hope, MN. Mr. Sanders died on May 1, 1979.
After his death, Shirley moved to Moorhead, where she had lived since. She worked at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, for many years, until she retired.


Shirley is survived by her daughters, Judith Sanders and Joyce Bloch, both Moorhead; three grandchildren, Zachary (Ashley) Bloch, Megan Bloch and her fiancée, Zachary Ham, and Abby (Bryce) Methven; and two great-grandchildren, Finn and Tate Bloch.


In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, John Norquist.
Visitation: One hour prior to the funeral, at the church.
Funeral service: Monday, October 9, 2006, at 2 PM,in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, Minnesota.
Burial: Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
