Sonia M. Wateland

Sonia M. Wateland, 90, Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, September 6, 2018, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND, the result of a fall.
Sonia, the daughter of George and Aasta (Grundfor) Grady, was born August 27, 1928, in Hendrum, MN. She grew up in Hendrum, graduating from high school in 1946.
On October 19, 1947, Sonia was united in marriage to Wallace L. Wateland. Sonia and Wally moved to Moorhead, where they made their home. They were blessed with two children, Mark and Barbara. Wally and Sonia were married for 65 years, before his passing in 2012. She continued to make her home in Moorhead.
Sonia worked in food service at Concordia College for around 20 years before she retired. She was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, where she faithfully served in the kitchen until she was 85.
Sonia was a master knitter, having created over 300 sweaters for friends and family. She was also a member of a sewing club. Aside from her crafting hobbies, she was a leader of "Bluebirds" for girls, and was involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, for boys.
Sonia is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Michael) Lindbloom, Park City, Utah; granddaughter, Erica Lindbloom; great-grandson, Liam Lindbloom; and her brother, George (Shirley) Grady. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Aasta; her husband, Wally; her son, Mark; and sister, Ernestine Paulsen.
Visitation for Sonia will be Tuesday, September 11, 2018, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Her Memorial Service will be Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at 1 PM, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
