Stella Carlson

Stella Lee Carlson, 103 years and 8 months, died peacefully on December 29, 2014, at Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead, MN, with family at her side, with Eventide and Hospice care. Stella was born on April 9, 1911 to Martin and Mathilda Lee at Maddock, ND. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1930, and received a Registered Nursing degree from St. John's Hospital in Fargo in 1933. She worked for over 40 years as a nurse and retired as a night supervisor at St. John's Hospital.

She married K. Martin Carlson in 1936 and they were married for over 50 years. Stella was very proud of her family. She raised three children in Moorhead, where she enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Stella was active in many areas. She was the oldest member of Bethesda Lutheran Church where she served making quilts for the needy, was active in her Circle and helped out in numerous dinners and much more. She was always willing to volunteer. She and Martin delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a Camp Fire Girls leader and also a leader in the Cub Scouts. She also belonged to the Royal Neighbors, the Degree of Honor and the Odd Fellows - Rebecca Lodge. She took care of her sister,Elizabeth, for 13 years, until Stella was 98 years old.

Stella is survived by her children, Lois Walker, Blaine, MN, Allan (Gayle) Carlson, Frederick, MD, and Larry (Janet) Carlson, Moorhead; sisters, Elizabeth Lee, Fargo, and Dolores Paper, San Antonio, TX; 9 grandchildren, Diane Hensel, Lori Keyes, Peggy (Jim) McRoberts, Steve (Jody) Walker, David (Joan) Carlson, Sandra (Lans) Alexis, Karyn (Paul) Nicholson, Connie (Fred) Chopin, and Christine Halvorson; 22 great-grandchildren, Jaime Hess, Jay Seeley, Anastasia and Quinn McRoberts, Samantha Waddle, Steve (Kendy) Walker Jr., Anthony Carlson, Lara, Abigail, Sara and Erik Alexis, Courtney (Erek) Arola, Morgan and Hunter Spina, Bailey Halvorson, Rachael Schaeffer, Grace, Kathryn and Rose Nicholson, and Robyn, Victoria and Melody Chopin; and 7 great-great-grandchildren, Ashley and Mikayla Hess, Stella Seely, Mia and Ashton Walker, Abigal Kaplowitz, and Cora Patz.

Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, who died in 1986; a grandson, Chad Carlson; her parents; brothers, Martin, Leonard, Edwin, Robert, and Donald Lee; and sisters, Margaret Edmundson and Ruby Wilson.

Visitation for Stella will be Monday, 4 PM until 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Funeral service will be Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at 11 AM, Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
