Steve D. Albertson, 71, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022, in VA Medical Center, Fargo.
Steven Doyle Albertson was born on August 10, 1950, in Fargo to Sanford and Donna Mae (Dorseth) Albertson. Steve was raised in Hendrum, MN, later moving to Flom, MN. He graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1968. Steve joined the Marine Corps right after high school. He was stationed in Camp Pendleton, CA, and served in Vietnam in 1970 before being discharged in 1971.
After his service in the Marines he moved back to the Fargo/Moorhead(MN) area where he attended college at Minnesota State University. On October 13, 1972, Steve was united in marriage to Doreen Cameron. Together they made their home in Twin Valley, where he worked with his father at Dairy Herd Improvement Association. In 1979, Steve and Doreen moved to Fargo, to take a job offer at NDSU, working with dairy cows. After a few years, he started his own farm with about 70 dairy cows. Steve loved his career as a farmer. However, in 1994 he needed a heart transplant. After that surgery he was unable to continue working with his herd due to risk of infections, so the two moved back to Flom. In 1996, he started working for Flom Region Mutual as a claims adjuster. He worked there until his retirement in 2010.
Steve had many health complications throughout his life; he had a heart transplant that lasted him 28 years, 18 years longer than expected. Later he developed Parkinson’s and colon cancer that spread to his lungs, liver, and eventually the cancer developed into brain tumors. Throughout all of these struggles with his health, he did his best to keep a positive attitude. It was well known by his family and friends that he was a fighter.
Steve is survived by his wife, Doreen; sister, Susan Johnson; sisters-in-law, Dawn Neumann, and Denise Smith, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sanford and Donna Mae; and father-in-law, Donald Cameron.
